"Heaven Knows" is a vocal past American rock band the Pretty Reckless from their 2nd studio album, Going to Hell (2014). It was written by Taylor Momsen and Ben Phillips, while Kato Khandwala was responsible for production. Released on November 19, 2013, as the album's second single, "Heaven Knows" is the ring's showtime single to elevation a Billboard chart (Mainstream Rock), and the 2nd single to top UK Rock Singles Chart, following their debut single "Make Me Wanna Die" (2010). The song after entered the Alternative Songs chart, peaking at number 20.

Following the end of their worldwide tour The Medicine Bout in 2012, the ring began working on their second studio album. They were recording at H2o Music Recording Studios in Hoboken, New Jersey, when the studio was destroyed past Hurricane Sandy in Oct 2012. They lost a lot of equipment and recordings of songs meant for the album and had to do a lot of re-recording.[i] Interscope Records released "Impale Me" to digital retailers on December 2, 2012; it would serve as the album's pb single. However, a disharmonize with the record visitor, generally considering of the poor operation of "Kill Me" on charts and sales, acquired the Pretty Reckless to cease their deal with Interscope, and on September 24, 2013, it was announced the ring had signed on with the label Razor & Tie.[ii]

Critical reception [edit]

Chris Payne of Billboard praised "Heaven Knows" and described it as "Queen's 'We Volition Rock You' & Baton Squire 'southward The Stroke with Joan Jett vocals".[4] Chucky Eddy of Rolling Stone besides praised the song, calling it a "full-on glam [stomp] almost troubled teens".[5]

Commercial functioning [edit]

"Sky Knows" was the Pretty Reckless' first single to top a Billboard chart. It was their showtime entry on the Mainstream Rock Songs chart and it ended up peaking at number one for three consecutive weeks.[ citation needed ] It was the second song past a female-fronted band to top that nautical chart in 24 years.[4] Later the song's success on mainstream stone radio stations, it was finally released to modern rock radio stations where information technology too became the band's first entry on the Culling Songs, peaking at number 20.[ commendation needed ] The song failed to enter the Billboard Hot 100, instead reaching number fourteen on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart.[6] The song was likewise the band's first entry on the Canadian Hot 100, peaking at number 48.[7]

The single debuted at number 151 on the U.k. Singles Chart for the week ending March one, 2014.[8] It entered the top 100 at number 95 in its tertiary week on the chart,[9] and in its 5th week, it peaked at number 61 with three,737 copies sold.[10] "Heaven Knows" as well became the band's second number-one song on the United kingdom of great britain and northern ireland Stone Singles Chart.[11]

"Sky Knows" became the band's first song to nautical chart in New Zealand and France, reaching numbers 38 and 158, respectively.[12] [thirteen]

Music video [edit]

The music video for "Heaven Knows", co-directed by lead vocalist Taylor Momsen and Jon J, was shot on location in Miami.[14] Momsen said of the video, "How practise you sum up a vocal that is metaphorically speaking about everyone's life from any full general perspective on video? Yous understate it. We decided to film variations of all of the issues we as a people are facing, whether personal, political or social. Nosotros took a lot of shots, each representing some social constant or emotional struggle. Some overt, some subtle, but it'south all in there. Everything is thrown at you from the twenty-four hours you're built-in. Your merely run a risk is to think for yourself... which is non every bit uncomplicated as it sounds."[14]

The video premiered on Vevo on February 13, 2014.[14] Information technology features a half-naked Momsen in black eye shadow, surrounded past called-for books and heavily tattooed teens in a dark high school.

The song was featured on the soundtrack to the 2017 moving-picture show American Satan, and was besides featured in 1 of the trailers for the 2nd season of Jessica Jones.
